House of Knives is a successful privately 100% Canadian owned business that was first established in 1979. In 1987, Allan Eng opened a House of Knives in Victoria, BC. In 1992, Allan and his brother Andre purchased the franchise rights for British Columbia and rapidly expanded from one store to 10 within a three month period. Together, they created a business model that distinguished itself from corporate stores by offering a broader selection of quality products, a higher level of customer service, and a sharper focus on product knowledge. This model established the western franchise as the most successful in Canada. By 2010, all House of Knives stores east of British Columbia were closed.
